Re item #1, of course there's a third way. (Just as there has been a third way between a balanced budget and an economic collapse.) The outrageously antisocial international actions like tariffs and denigrating alliance partners get trimmed back enough to let us muddle through without disappearing completely. We are worse off but there is no collapse.

I come for the savvy insights . . . and stay for the stylish, conversational writing ("Democrats get waxed," "his feral behavior").

Anne Applebaum's article yesterday ended with this: "But in the past 48 hours, Donald Trump has just given us a pitch-perfect demonstration of why legislatures are necessary, why checks and balances are useful, and why most one-man dictatorships become poor and corrupt. If the Republican Party does not return Congress to the role it is meant to play and the courts don’t constrain the president, this cycle of destruction will continue and everyone on the planet will pay the price".

The Founders knew this day would come and the balance of powers was their solution. The Courts, even with the presence of weak Chief Justice John Roberts, have held. The Republican controlled Congress has cowardly failed. They apparently have no shame.

I just sent my Representative (Brett Guthrie) this quote and asked him to do his job....I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks for flagging that piece and quote, Mike. I meant to include it in the MRI. It’s a must-read
