I appreciate her speech. The hyper reactivity going on everywhere is not helping. We’ve spent years trying to point out how horrible DT is and he still won. Dems need to do a better job of hearing people and their concerns without shaming them, calling them stupid. If moms are concerned about the health of their children, talk to them. By labelling them and calling them names, we simply alienate them. The swing voters dissatisfied with Trump, and I know many, need a home to come to.
Dems still see Trump as a cause, not a symptom. Even Donald Trump himself realizes that if things were going remotely okay in the country he wouldn’t be president.
Ron also wanted to say that your analysis on Sen. Slotkin’s speech is spot on! I don’t think we will ever get the hard core MAGA, perhaps 40% of the voters. Sen. Slotkin is a leader and I like where she lead us last night. She spoke to the middle, who are persuadable like you said. I think her deft approach changed some minds or at least opened them to hearing the Democratic Party’s message. Perhaps the DNC should relocate to Wyandotte, MI or places like Wilkes-Barre, PA ( located in a county that voted for Obama twice, and then flipped for Trump twice). I won’t hold my breath. But my point is they need to get out of Washington and start hanging with everyday Americans.
Ron, what a speech by Senator Slotkin! I just watched online. I stopped watching the SOTU when Trump was lying to the American people about social security checks being sent out to people who are dead and would be 350 yo today. I couldn’t take it. But getting back to Sen. Slotkin. She is brilliant, a breath of fresh air, and gives me hope that we can turn things around. I think she changed some minds. The opposition speech to the SOTUT is almost impossible to pull off. They usually fail whether it’s a Rep. or Dem. giving the talk. A thankless job. But on a scale of 1-10 she was a 20, off the charts. The best opposition speech to the SOTU I’ve ever heard! I could see her on the Democratic ticket in 2028.
Senator Elissa Slotkin's approach to engagement contrasts with that of some Democrats who engage in overt displays of opposition and hostility. They seem rudderless. For them to ignore those compellingly human interest stories last night was shameful.
These actions strike me as childish and driven by intense political animosity. By prioritizing governance over spectacle, Slotkin positions herself as a pragmatic voice within her party, aiming to appeal to a broad spectrum of voters.
However, Slotkin's critique of President Trump's use of the phrase "peace through strength," suggesting he "stole" it from Ronald Reagan, was trivial at best. The phrase has historical roots predating Reagan. A version is found in ancient Rome and restated by George Washington. Perhsps a small point but it sounded petty to me.
Moreover, Senator Slotkin's portrayal of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as a "gang of 20-year-olds" intruding into citizens' personal data is is stated as fact without proof. It is hyperbolic and detracts from legitimate concerns about data privacy and oversight. This characterization was unworthy of an otherwise fine speech. I'm sure very few will agree me.
Overall, Slotkin's approach reflects a dedication to addressing the concerns of moderates, working-class Americans, and even disaffected Republicans. Her emphasis on unity and shared values, coupled with her policy-focused critiques, distinguishes her within the Democratic Party as a leader striving for responsible governance over partisan conflict. She has a promising political future.
if u think this lying felon's speech of mistruths, lies and vengeance was a success, I am no longer going to follow you....these times are not normal and this illegitimate pres and him unelected minions are getting away with an unconstitutional coup so NO, being nice to fascists is not the answer and the dem. party loyalists will abandon and stay home in future elections if this is what the opposition party does.
Then that's on me, John. My job is to communicate clearly. I had hoped the modeling of Trump's juvenile cadence and wild hyperbole (Buchanan as our #2 president, really?) would make the satire clear, and if not, the quick pivot to a negative assessment of his speech would avoid confusion.

Amen! Preach, Stacy!
Dems still see Trump as a cause, not a symptom. Even Donald Trump himself realizes that if things were going remotely okay in the country he wouldn’t be president.
Slotkin was a breath of fresh air! She served up the perfect tone. Good job Dems for selecting her, you are learning!

Amen !
It was NOT a success....irony is lost on Republicans....you need to rephrase it before FOX runs the Headline.
Thanks, Margaret. If irony is lost on them, so will the fact.
Senator Slotkin gave a very good speech. I heard Bernie Sanders's rebuttal and it was a great speech,

You actually think that this limp-dicked "response" was good?

James Buchanan supported the Dred Scott decision. Bastard.
At least trump didn't take Lincoln's name in vain.
Trump loved him and the Gilded Age
She was fantastic

Slow down, John. It’s satire. Please give it another read.
I didn’t get the satire Ron
